AER Lingus has issued a profit warning, blaming the threat of cabin crew strikes for deterring customers from booking.

Wednesday night’s deferral of strike action planned for June 16 and 18 by the Impact trade union came too late for the Irish airline.

It said: “The threat of this strike has caused significant damage to Aer Lingus’ trading and forward bookings for several months into the future.”

The company said it expected its 2014 operating profits would be 10 per cent to 20 per cent lower than last year.
