See Tickets, which was once part of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group, was put up for sale by owner Parcom earlier this year.

Vivendi is said to have won the auction in face of rival bids from CTS Eventim, US group Anschutz and the Ambassador Theatre Group.

See Tickets competes head on with the UK’s largest ticketing agency Ticketmaster, which last year merged with rock concert promotor Live Nation.

Vivendi, with interests spanning Universal Music and telecoms, already owns a small French ticketing business called Digitick but the deal gives it a major foothold in the UK market.

See Tickets sells entry to shows and events ranging from West End musicals such as Shrek and Chicago to the Glastonbury festival and the Ryder Cup golf tournament.
