Woolworths dramatically collapsed into administration last night, bringing to an end nearly 100 years of trading on the high street and putting up to 30,000 jobs at risk, reports the Independent. The banks behind the 815-store pick-'n'-mix retailer appointed Deloitte as administrator, despite a last-minute attempt by Lord Mandelson, the Business Secretary, to save Woolworths.
