San Diego-based power and gas company, Sempra Energy, is a holding company whose subsidiaries are primarily engaged in the energy business. The company's principal subsidiaries include: San Diego Gas & Electric, a provider of electric and natural gas services; Southern California Gas Company, a natural gas distribution utility; and Sempra Energy Global Enterprises, a holding company that owns many of Sempra’s other subsidiaries. The Sempra Energy companies' employ almost 13,000 people and serve over 10m customers in the United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico, South America and Asia.
