Very intense and crucial phase for Europe, says Monti

Italian prime minister Mario Monti considers this to be a “very intense and crucial phase for Europe” according to his report to Italy’s lower house of parliament.

He has urged all of the parties to continue backing the reforms put forth by his technocratic government in order for Italy to wade through the market turmoil. While “worried by the situation of emergency”, Monti insisted that Italy was in a stronger position than a few months ago and that it would not need to request financial assistance, adding that “our banks our stable.”
