US midday: Banks and Facebook up

US banks rose through Friday morning as investors shrugged off the credit ratings downgrade yesterday by Moody’s of 15 major financial institutions.

Markets were also cheered by changes to the European Central Bank’s collateral requirements.

COMPANIES

Morgan Stanley was up 1% just after midday, Bank of America and Citigroup were also in positive territory (although losing ground on the open).

Facebook had gained 2.8% by midday and is now 24% up since June 8th. The stock is still around 14% down on the original listing.
