Questor in the Telegraph continues to bat for recycled packaging firm DS Smith, which has now completed its takeover of Swedish giant SCA Packaging. The firm’s European footprint is now huge, making it very useful for companies like Marks and Reckitt Benckiser to use. Trading at 10.2 projected 2012 earnings, the shares are a buy.
Tempus in The Times rather enjoys a trot through the figures for one of its tips of the year, mobile phone testing firm Anite. The group is in the right place at the right time, making millions from testing equipment from the ever expanding universe of new handsets.
The stock is up 40% since the start of the year and now sell at nearly 18 times projected earnings for 2012. Tempus suggests that people who took his advice to buy last year might now consider taking some profits, but the stock remains a strong hold.
Tempus is far more circumspect over Finnish nickel miner Talvivaara. It has consistently disappointed by missing production targets and its chemical extraction methods have been hindered by heavy rain. Tempus believes the stock may now have reached rock bottom after yet another missed target but this is a buy for “gamblers only”.
