European open: Advance continues

Europe’s leading exchanges are adding to yesterday’s gains in early dealings on Friday with BP recovering further on more optimistic reports from the Gulf of Mexico on its attempts to curb the oil spillage.

The firm says it has placed a LMRP cap on the leak, but added that it is too early to say if the next part of the plan, to syphon the oil up to the surface, would work.

Elsewhere in the sector, Total, Eni and Repsol are also on the rise.

Across the markets, the Dax in Frankfurt is up 44 points to 6,098, with the Cac in Paris rising 28 points to 3,585. The Swiss market has added 34 points to 6,452.

Anglo-Swedish drugs giant AstraZeneca has submitted a marketing authorisation application (MAA) to the European Union for its cardiovascular drug Axanum.
