1630: Footsie finished in the blue going into the weekend, with oil services groups leading the charge.

Petrofac and John Wood, both of which reported strong interim results mid-week, continued their advance, helped by the higher oil price. Producer and explorer Cairn Energy also climbed.

Ferrochrome producer Ferrexpo was higher in line with rising metals prices. Platinum refiner Johnson Matthey advanced as prices for the precious metal rose in Tokyo.
