'Merkozy' scheduled to meet this morning

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has travelled to Paris this morning to meet with French President Nicolas Sarkozy in the Franco-German Council of Ministers scheduled for 11:30 this morning (10:30 London time).

The two leaders, often called “Merkozy”, are expected to discuss further measures to tackle the Eurozone sovereign debt problems including an analysis of the recent agreements made on January 30th at the EU summit.

They may also debate on the financial transaction tax which Sarkozy has already moved through in France while Merkel has held off for a European consensus opinion.

Further, they may well discuss the crisis in Syria after the Russian and Chinese veto on the UN resolution requesting Syrian President Basahar al-Assad to step down.

Merkel and Sarkozy will hold a joint interview for German and French television.
