Merkel says bond purchases by bail-out funds are possible

Bond purchases by the European bail-out funds are a possibility, German chancellor Angela Merkel is reported to have said, according to Blooomberg News.

That news comes after a day of conflicting reports on the subject. More specifically, she is cited as having said that there is no such specific plan, but that the possibility to do so exists.

Even so, it would appear that those news reports did indeed have some truth to them.

As an aside, clearing house LCH Clearnet has just announced an increase in the margins required to trade some Italian government debt instruments.
