LONDON (ShareCast) - Home Retail Group faces the threat of distribution workers at its catalogue store chain Argos going on strike after the union Unite said it will hold a ballot to take industrial action over pay.
Unite, which was behind the recent strike at the Grangemouth oil refinery, said the ballot would cover 2,000 workers at Rugby, Bridgewater, Castleford, Basildon and Heywood. It warned that any strike action would cause ‘significant disruption.’
“Workers have rejected the company's pay offer of 4.0%,” Unite said.
“They are also furious that Argos intends to erode the sick pay scheme and implement monthly pay instead of weekly pay without any compensation.”
