Bombardier wins order for 42 commuter trains from France
Canadian train and aircraft maker Bombardier has won a deal to supply 42 double-deck electric commuter trains to service the Paris suburbs.
Bombardier Transportation is to make a fleet of suburban Regio 2N trains, which can carry 1,000 passengers, for the Syndicat des Transports d'Ile-de-France (STIF) and French state railway SNCF.
It is an additional order as part of an ongoing contract signed in 2010 and is worth about €397m. Delivery of the new trains will start from September 2017 and the trains will operate on Line R of the southern Parisian suburban network to Montereau and Montargis.
The STIF and SNCF selected the long eight-car suburban Regio 2N version from Toronto-listed Bombardier's Omneo platform of extra-wide double-deck electrical multiple units.
Ten French regions have ordered a total of 201 Regio 2N trains under a contract signed in 2010 with SNCF on behalf of the regions for a maximum of 860 trains. The trains will be built at Bombardier's Crespin site in France.
