ITV clinches cricket World Cup deal
ITV has won a contract to show highlights of the upcoming cricket World Cup, which begins on 14 February.
The broadcaster will show England’s games, including their match against Scotland, on its main channel, with the semi-finals and the final also to be shown on the same channel, though only if England make it that far.
The tournament, which is co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, will be broadcasted live by Sky Sports, with the broadcaster’s Sky Sports 2 channel to be rebranded Sky Sports World Cup for the duration of the tournament.
Matches involving other teams will be shown on ITV4, with highlights beginning at 10pm each night and lasting between 60 and 90 minutes.
While Sky has held the monopoly of live cricket in the UK, Channel 5 has shown the highlights of England’s Test series in recent years, with ITV’s main foray into the sport being the highlights of the Indian Premier League.
ITV shares were down 2.50% to 225.90 at 16:54 on Tuesday.
