BA July traffic down 3.5%

Date: Tuesday 05 Aug 2008

British Airways said traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometres, fell by 3.5% in July as non-premium journeys fell

Passenger load factor fell 5.4 percentage points to 75.8%. Traffic comprised a 0.4% increase in premium traffic and a 4.1% fall in non-premium traffic.

Passenger capacity in the same month, measured in available seat kilometres, was 3.5% above the same month last year.

"Market conditions for the industry remain very difficult on the back of high oil prices and a weak economic environment. Longhaul premium remains broadly flat versus last year while non-premium bookings remain most sensitive to price changes," said the group.
