US weekly jobless claims rise more than expected
US unemployment claims rose by 10,000 in the week ending on 27 June to reach 281,000, according to the US Department of Labor.
Economists at Barclays had penciled in an increase of 4,000 to reach 275,000.
The four-week moving average gained 1,000 to 273,750.
Secondary unemployment claims, those which are not filed for the first time and referencing the week ending on 20 June, edged higher by 15,000 to reach 2.264m.
