LONDON (ShareCast) - James Bond gadgets group QinetiQ has been awarded a maritime facilities contract by the Ministry of Defence worth more than £150m over the next 15 years.
The Maritime Strategic Capabilities Agreement (MSCA) will allow the MOD and other government and commercial customers access to all QinetiQ's maritime facilities and expertise.
The deal covers “anything that moves in or on water”, said the firm, including ships, divers and tidal turbines.
QinetiQ's existing maritime facilities in Gosport, Hampshire and a shock test facility at Rosyth in Scotland form part of the contract.
“Today's contract with QinetiQ will provide access to advanced modelling of submarine hull forms for the MOD's future submarine programme, and hydrodynamic facilities for the detailed testing of the innovative hull to be used by the Royal Navy's new aircraft carriers,” said Baroness Taylor, Minister for Defence Equipment & Support.
