LONDON (ShareCast) - Vero Software, which specialises in CAD/CAM software for the mould and die industry, lifted revenues by 13% to £6.6m and underlying profits by 23% to £340,000 in the half year to June.
Pre-tax profits fell to £64,000 from £276,000 after £276,00 of one-off restructuring costs. "The current economic environment remains challenging. We have taken steps to reduce our cost base and with the new product releases due in the second half of the year we believe we are well placed to weather an economic downturn," chief executive Don Babbs said.
Energy saving products group Sabien has been awarded a contract by Norwich Union worth £188,000 to install its M2G technology at its offices in the UK.
Computer design software specialist Concurrent Technologies lifted interim profit by 45% to £1.2m, on sales up 15% to £5.48m, as gross margins improved by seven percentage points. "The excellent performance seen in the first half is continuing and our healthy order book gives us confidence for the remainder of the year," it added.
SPG Media said its financial year has begun well and is in line with management expectations, with order intake up year on year by 21% for the 21 weeks to 24 August.
"Although this has fallen from the 30% we reported for the first 11 weeks we are still producing positive order intake," it said.
"The economic environment continues to be challenging but with the continued investment in our people and products we are placed to continue our strategy of increasing revenue," it added.
Loss before tax at car technology firm Transense Technology narrowed to £0.23m in the first half of 2008, from £0.76m a year earlier.
Revenue slipped to £0.1m from £0.14m, though the company stressed that this “does not reflect the current level of activity within Transense,” with the company’s activity level at its highest for several years.
“It is too early to give any indicative forecasts, but even if a few of the many projects upon which the company is currently working come to fruition, then, in a year’s time, we believe that there will be a more positive message to tell than has been experienced in the immediate past,”said David Kleeman, non-executive chairman.
