LONDON (ShareCast) - The volatile market conditions in September resulted in a 24% increase in the equity order books of the London Stock Exchange.
The group said it saw “very strong trading” during the month with £302.8bn worth of equity trading, an 24% increase on September 2007, while the total number of trades increased 62% to 27.1 million.
Average daily value traded in equities across the group's markets increased 12% year on year to £13.8bn, while the average daily number of trades increased 48% to 1.2m.
In the UK, the total valued traded during September 2008 was up 24% year on year to £193.7bn with trades up 76%.
The total value traded on the Italian order book increased only 1% and trades rose 27%, while international equities reached record levels, with trades up 98% to 1.3m and values rising 60%.
A record 10.8m contracts were traded across the LSE’s derivatives markets, EDX London and IDEM, representing an increase of 72% on last September. The notional value traded increased 22% to £153.1bn.
