Thursday preview: US corporate results, BoJ in focus
Around the world, financial markets are likely to remain fixated on the US earnings season, although central banks will not be far from investors' minds.

Overnight, investors will be digesting the latest quarterly updates out of Microsoft and Facebook, followed by retail giant Amazon.com and tech bellwether Intel after the close of US markets.
Figures on durable goods orders in the US covering the month of March, which are due out at 1330 BST, are also likely to garner considerable attention.
Markets will also be keeping an eye out for the Bank of Japan's policy decision, although according to analysts at Bank of America-Merrill Lynch policymakers in Tokyo are unlikely to make any changes, including to their forward guidance.
Rate-setters in Sweden are also due to meet to decide on rates, with the consensus forecast being for rates to remain on hold at -0.25%.
In the UK meanwhile, only the Confederation of British Industry's industrial trends survey for April is due out, even as the government and Labour meet again to try and thrash out a common approach on the best way to move forward.
The focus on Thursday will be squarely on Barclays, with the analyst consensus having penciled-in a drop in first quarter pretax profits from £1,725m one year ago to £1,567m, excluding litigation and conduct costs.
In particular, said Numis's Tom Rayner, investors would focus on whether the lender's commercial and investment banking arm managed to dodge the weakness seen among its US-listed peers over the first three months of the year.
If the Markets segment typically made up half the CIB unit's revenues, the first three months of the year usually contributed 30% of the full-year tally for the Markets segment.
Rayner also noted recent evidence of "some" deterioration when securitising credit card loans, adding that the group's ET1 ratio merited watching (consensus: 13.2%).
RoTE for the first quarter was seen printing at 9.1% "although seasonal factors mean this is not a good proxy for the full year figure, which we currently estimate to be 8% (ex L&C)."
