FX round-up: Dollar little changed in choppy session

Date: Tuesday 09 Mar 2010

The dollar gained a bit of ground on Monday as risk appetite faded following Friday’s upbeat jobs data and as traders await for more news about Greece’s ability to resolve its debt crisis.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency against a basket of six others, climbed 0.3% to 80.44 on Monday. The dollar was down 0.1% against the euro at $1.3634 on Monday from $1.3626 on Friday.

Reassuring comments from French President Nicolas Sarkozy that the euro zone will help Greece meet its debt obligations, if needed, went some way to sooth recent worries about economic stability in Europe. The head of the International Monetary Fund also said Greece's financial woes are not expected to spread to other eurozone countries with high debt levels.

The dollar was little changed at 90.27 yen. Against the pound the dollar was up 0.5% at $1.5078.
