Australia's G-20 summit organiser revealed world leaders' personal data
Personal details of US President Barack Obama, Russian president Vladimir Putin, UK Prime Minister David Cameron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Chinese president Xi Jinping, and other leaders, were emailed to the organising committee for the Asian Cup by mistake, reports The Guardian.
The name, birth date, nationality and passport number, as well as the visa details of world leaders were erroneously revealed by an Australian Immigration official.
“The cause of the breach was human error. The errant employee failed to check that the auto-fill function in Microsoft Outlook had entered the incorrect person’s details into the email ‘To’ field. This led to the email being sent to the wrong person.”
Nevertheless, the Australian immigration office considered it unnecessary to inform those world leaders of the privacy breach.
Following the information being made public, Australia's opposition leader Tanya Plibersk urged the country's Prime Minister Tony Abbott to “explain this serious incident and the decision not to inform those affected.”
