What to expect from this year's Black Friday deals
Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving in America, offers customers some of the largest discounts and has grown to become one of most popular shopping days in the year.
Traditionally, Black Friday allowed retailers to make enough sales to put them “in the black” for the year.
After many years of retail success in the US, the phenomenon was slowly introduced to UK incumbents.
This year, Black Friday is expected to be the biggest online shopping day in UK history as retailers plan to slash prices by up to 90%. But it’s not just online that retailers will be slashing prices. Customers can also expect to receive some of the best deals in-store.
Here’s what some of the big retailers are doing for the Thursday super sale:
John Lewis will be opening stores an hour early at 08:00 on Friday. Prices will be dropped across hundreds of electrical products including tablets, laptops, televisions, small and large electrical appliances.
Amazon is holding week-long sales with offers and items available every 10 minutes for a limited time. From electronics to clothing, to even luggage and children’s toys, Amazon will showcase some of the biggest price cuts available.
Sainsbury's has revealed it will be taking part in Black Friday deals for the first time this year. The retailer plans to discount a total of 12 lines including entertainment, electricals, children's toys and DIY products.
Argos will also be offering Black Friday price cuts on televisions, toys and technology items and more. Argos will be allowing customers to order bargains online and pick up in store
Game will be making hourly announcements from 18:00 Thursday about its deals on computer consoles and games it will have available online and in stores beginning Friday at Midnight.
Asda is offering customers a sneak peak of its Black Friday deals. The company website is currently showcasing a 40-inch TV deal for under £150, an Xbox 360 and games for £99, and Beats Solo head phones for under £80.
CMC Markets analyst, Jasper Lawler, said: "Big US companies including Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Macy’s are known for the large crowds stampeding their stores as they open on Black Friday.
“The rise of Amazon.com and Cyber Monday has seen the concept spread to the UK with John Lewis, Argos, Curry’s PC World and ASDA getting in on the fray. Sebastian James, chief executive of Dixons Carphone owner of Curry’s PC World, said the Black Friday weekend is now the second busiest sales period after Boxing Day.”
