Morocco to join Saudi coalition in Yemen
The country will join the Sunni Arab alliance against Shiite rebels
The Moroccan Foreign Ministry has said that the country would join the Saudi-led campaign against Shiite Houthi rebels who have seized large areas in Yemen.
Through this announcement, the country has joined a Sunni Muslim coalition in which Egypt, Jordan and Sudan also participate.
Although Saudi Arabia reported Pakistan's involvement, the country's defence minister Khawaja Asif assured he had made no decision on whether to contribute.
Morocco's support is intended to “defend legitimacy”, according to the Moroccan Foreign Ministry, and will provide intelligence, logistics and military support to the coalition.
In Tehran, Friday prayer leader Ayatollah Kazem Sadeghi said that the attacks in Yemen were “an aggression and interference in the country's internal affairs”.
