The princess was born on Saturday at St Mary's Hospital in London, and will be the fourth in line to the throne after her grandfather, Prince Charles; her father, Prince William; and her brother, Prince George.
London's major monuments, including Trafalgar Square's fountains and the London Eye, were lit on Saturday in her honour.
The choice of the name Charlotte may be tribute to William's father the Prince of Wales as it is the feminine form of the name Charles, while her middle names are those of her great grandmother the Queen - Elizabeth II - and her late grandmother - Diana, Princess of Wales.
The name Charlotte was hotly tipped by gamblers, according to Ladbrokes.
Spokeswoman Jessica Bridge said: "Charlotte was the hot tip over the weekend and royal watchers up and down the land are quids in.
"We may have lost a fortune but we're paying out with a smile and wish the Duke and Duchess all the best."
