The deal is the single largest order by number of aircraft in the company’s history and the second-largest order by value, Airbus said in a statement released on Monday.
In October last year, IndiGo, India’s largest domestic airline by market share, submitted a provisional order for the aircraft, as it aims to secure a bigger share of India’s rapidly expanding aviation market.
In January 2011, the India-based carrier ordered 180 planes worth a total of $15bn from Airbus, which at the time was the largest order in the history of commercial aviation, with over 100 planes delivered so far.
The new deal means Airbus now has a backlog of over 4,100 A320neo planes, the France-based group said.
Airbus shares were up 1.07% to €63.07 at 1034 BST on Monday.
