According to two people familiar with the matter, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reached an agreement with the Justice Department to spearhead the investigation of Google’s Android business.
Officials met with other technology company representatives who say Google gives priority to its own services on the Android platform, while restricting others.
Bloomberg said its early stages for the inquiry and it may lead to nothing, but it showed the FTC is again turning its attention to one of the US’ biggest companies.
It comes after the EU also started its own investigation into Android in April following a number of complaints, including a group representing Microsoft, Expedia and Nokia.
Europe’s Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager also challenged Google earlier this year over its dominance of internet search.
