It is thought that the cutting-edge piece of wearable technology will have a battery life exceeding two days, according to Forbes, and be able to track its user’s heart-rate and operate across various mobile platforms.
Apple and Samsung both unveiled plans in September to release smartwatches next year that would combine fitness apps with mobile technology.
A surprise release from Microsoft this close to the holiday season should capture the imagination of buyers.
Forbes cited anonymous sources close to the project but Microsoft has yet to confirm.
The company told Digital Look: "Unfortunately we do not comment on rumour or speculation."
