Uber files complaints against Germany, France and Spain
Car-hailing group Uber Technologies has filed an official complaint with the European Commission against three European Governments.
The complaints, filed against France and Germany and against Spain, are related to the three governments’ decision to impose ban on the San Francisco-based company for offering certain services in their countries.
In March, following a lawsuit from a German taxi operator, Uber was hit by a nationwide ban from a German court.
On Monday, a French court said it would delay a decision on banning some of the company’s services in France until the country’s highest appeals court has pronounced itself on the matter.
Courts in Spain and in the Netherlands have also forced Uber to suspend its low-cost Uberpop service, while the company’s drivers were criticised in Brussels last month.
A spokesman for Uber said on Wednesday that the complaints would be assessed in the light of “proportionality” and “liberty of establishment” of businesses.
“That’s the space in which this discussion is unfolding,” he added.
