Don't take a March interest rate hike off the table, Fed's Harker says
An interest rate hike in March was possible, the president of the US Federal Reserve bank of Philadelphia said.
In an exclusive interview with Market News International, the head of the Philly Fed also expressed worries the US monetary authority might fall behind the curve.
"I don't think we're behind the curve now, but it is something I am worried about," Harked reportedly said.
Nnonetheless, when queried about whether he would vote for an actual rate hike come March he said "We'll have to see how it plays out in the next few weeks."
Harker also welcomed the fact business and consumer confidence remained high, but added "I do want to see that play out in the numbers".
To talk about gradual rate hikes means that "we have to keep moving along the path," he explained.
