Fed meeting to go ahead despite winter blizzard warnings
Rate-setters in the US would go ahead with their regularly scheduled two day policy meeting despite the blizzard that was expected to hit the eastern seaboard of the the country.
The Federal Open Market Committee was still due to meet on 14 and 15 March, the US central bank said in a statement.
According to weather forecasts, parts of northeastern Pennsylvania, New York's Hudson valley, Vermont and New Hampshire could see up to two feet of snow, with as many as 31.0m having put under a blizzard warning and potentially another 25.0m facing a winter storm warning.
Through Wednesday, almost 7,700 flights had also been cancelled.
The two-day meeting would conclude on Wednesday, followed by a press conference from Fed chair Janet Yellen at 2030 GMT.
