Greece's exit from EU/IMF bailout could be delayed due to "technical reasons"
Greece ‘s planned exit from the European Union (EU) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout by the end of the year might have to be delayed by a couple of weeks.
On Thursday, Evangelos Venizelos, the country’s deputy prime minister, said “technical reasons” might force Athens to postpone its exit from the programme. Greek officials are running out of time to secure a final bailout review after negotiations with EU/IMF lenders in Paris turned out to be fruitless.
“The European program ends on 31 December. The aim is for the last tranche to be disbursed by 31 December. If for technical reasons some procedures cannot be completed there could be an extension, but not a new bailout," said Venizelos, adding the extension could be for “weeks or a few days”.
