UK business leaders plan "Brexit" campaign
A group of British leaders and entrepreneurs said on Sunday they were preparing to launch a Brexit campaign ahead of the referendum on the country's membership to the European Union (EU).
The group called “No thanks- we´re going global”, would be supported by insurance millionaire and major UKIP donor Arron Banks, property investor Richard Tice and other four financial backers who have already pledged £7m of the £20m campaign.
This is too important for politicians to be taking the lead
"This is too important for politicians to be taking the lead, it has got to be business, and the wider public," Banks told the newspaper.
"They can endorse it and support it but they will not be involved in the campaign."
Campaigners were also said to be in talks with sports stars, and leading figures in medicine, science and the military to help promote the campaign.
The Confederation of British Industry had previously urged UK businesses to make themselves heard of a possible exit of the UK from the European Union, while reminding that the country was part of 500m people to which 50% of the UK's exports went.
