Clegg: A minority government will prompt a second election
The UK could face a second general election before Christmas in the event of a Labour or Conservative minority government, according to Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg.
Clegg warned that without the moderating influence of the Lib Dems, both parties would lack the stability required to "put the country first".
Everybody knows that no-one will win this election.
"Everybody knows that no-one will win this election - even if David Cameron and Ed Miliband won't admit it publicly," he said during a visit to Cardiff.
"The last thing Britain needs is a second election before Christmas. But that is exactly what will happen if Ed Miliband and David Cameron put their own political interest ahead of the national interest," he claimed.
He also pointed out that without a political centre ground, the government could lurch into a "blue-kip alliance cutting beyond what is necessary" or reckless borrowing from Labour and the SNP.
Clegg predicted that the Liberal Democrats would exceed the polls' expectations.
