Car sales set to record three years of growth
Official figures are this week expected to show that sales of cars in the UK have experienced 36 months of continuous year-on-year growth.
The surge in car purchases has been attributed to reductions in fuel costs and low interest rates, as well as stronger consumer confidence.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) last year reported February sales of 68,736 and this is the figure that will have to be beaten if the industry is to make it a full three years of growth.
Last year saw the number of new cars registered in a year reach 2,476,435, rising to levels last seen before the recession hit.
