Gordon Brown to 'step down' at next general election
Gordon Brown is set to step down as MP at the next general election, reports have claimed.
According to the Sunday Mirror, the 63-year-old former prime minister is said to be planning to "go out on a high" following the outcome of the vote on Scottish independence referendum.
The paper quoted a source as saying the Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath MP will announce his decision "within days".
Brown was prime minister between 2007 and 2010 and has been a Labour MP since 1983.
The Independent quoted a senior Scottish Labour MP as saying charity work may be on the cards for Brown.
"He won't be looking to do a Tony Blair and enter the City," the MP said.
