Online shoppers will receive a message confirming whether their basket was better value at Sainsbury’s than rival Asda. If this is not the case, they will receive a Brand Match money-off coupon up to the value of £10 that can be redeemed against their next shop.
The scheme, which was launched in 2011, was previously only available in store.
“With brand match now available online, customers can be reassured that we’re checking prices and doing the maths for them, online as well as in store,” said Robbie Feather, director of Online.
“Launching Brand Match online is part of the extensive work we’ve doing to improve our website and our online service, being there for our customers whenever and wherever they want. This is good news for our shoppers and another important step in the growth of our £1bn online business.”
At 1220 BST, J Sainsbury shares were down 0.2% at 252.90p.
