The encroaching holiday season means travel is on the horizon for most of us.
But The Guide to Sleeping in Airports, an online resource for globetrotters, has put together an annual survey of 2014's worst airports that may persuade you to stay home.
1. Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad, Pakistan
"Likened to a central prison, ISB is criticized for the crowds (and absence of crowd control), the pervasive corruption, the aggressive-yet-inconsistent security checks, and the overall lack of cleanliness and technology."
2. King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
"Rude immigration officers and lengthy queues do little to improve the traveller experience." And don't expect to catch up on any sleep as "chairs are limited, uncomfortable metal and most have armrests".
3. Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, Nepal
Essentially there is a "lack of air-conditioning and a filthy smoking room" not to mention an "absolute lack of soap" in the bathrooms.
4. Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Philippines
Be prepared for "overcrowding, lengthy queues, limited seating, unfriendly immigration/customs officers and smelly toilets," if you head to this airport.
5. Tashkent International Airport, Uzbekistan
"Elbows are required should you hope to maintain your spot in line, since any form of line-up or crowd control seems to be virtually non-existent.passengers often find themselves queuing into the wee morning hours."
6. Paris Beauvais-Tille Airport, France
"Cramped, rundown, debatably clean, and not particularly friendly, this airport does little more than load and unload passengers in a cargo-like fashion."
7. Frankfurt Hahn Airport, Germany
Two main reasons: uncomfortable seating throughout, and the place is located 120 kilometers from Frankfurt city center.
8. Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport, Italy
Have a nap beforehand because "travellers consistently report being woken up and moved and make space for cleaners. Other grievances stem from the lack of Wi-Fi, the lack of electrical outlets and the short-tempered security staff."
9. Tegel Airport, Berlin, Germany
Past passengers warn: "seating is limited, queues are long, restaurants are crowded and hallways offer little personal space."
10. LaGuardia Airport, New York City
Head to this airport and you'll be plagued with "security lines, drab décor, poor restaurant selection, lackluster cleanliness, counter-intuitive layout and the notoriously unhelpful staff".
