TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 17,237 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 30 and 31 January 2012, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 19,441,307 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,323,527,592 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
