TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 23,965 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 8 and 9 February 2012, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 19,378,186 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,323,590,713 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
