Kalahari Minerals plc ("Kalahari" or "the Group")
Copper & Base Metal Projects Update
Kalahari Minerals plc, the AIM listed mining exploration group with a portfolio of copper, base metal and uranium interests in Namibia, is pleased to provide an update on exploration activities at its copper and base metal projects in Namibia, which highlights exciting drill results and demonstrates encouraging progress.
Copper Projects
Kalahari has continued its aggressive exploration programme to define in excess of 250,000 tonnes of copper metal at the key copper targets Dordabis and Witvlei. The Company remains focussed on achieving its goal of establishing a copper processing facility fed by multiple ore sources from both targets.
Witvlei
Malachite Pan
A total of 180 Reverse Circulation ("RC") holes have been drilled at Malachite Pan to date for 19,401m and 12 diamond holes for 1,895m. Major copper intersections returned include 24m @ 1.2%, 16m @1.9%, 15m @ 1.8%, 12m @1.5% and 11m @ 1.9%. Mineralisation remains open and further drilling is scheduled. Conceptual scoping studies are scheduled to commence this month and rig capacity is targeted to increase from two to four RC rigs on site in July 2008.
Okasewa
First pass drilling of 39 holes totalling 4,963m were drilled in 2007 and major copper intersections have been generated including 54m @1.51%, 51m @ 1%, 37m @ 1.8% and 34m @1%. Infill RC drilling commenced in May 2008 and conceptual scoping studies are on line to commence in June 2008. Rig capacity is scheduled to increase from one to four RC rigs by August 2008.
Christiadore
The drilling programme has continued since March 2007 and includes 11 RC holes for 1,336m which has confirmed the historic resource of 30,000 tonnes metal. Major copper intersections identified demonstrate higher grades with lower widths including 9m @ 2.5%, 7m @ 2.9% and 5m @ 3.7%. Christiadore will be included in the conceptual scoping study to commence June 2008.
Dordabis
Koperberg / RK Zones
Approximately 25,000m of RC drilling has been completed to date. First pass drilling at RK prospect completed in 2007 have returned major intersections including 8m @ 2.3%, 12m @ 1.2% and 7m @ 1.7%. Channel sampling commenced this month to gain some oxide mineralisation into the resource. All data will be reviewed and included in the conceptual scoping study, which will determine project viability, scheduled to commence end of June 2008.
Swartberg Prospect
The Swartberg Prospect is a low grade, high tonnage target demonstrating copper ("Cu) (+/- silver ("Ag")) mineralisation hosted within an andesitic unit proximal to a north/south trending volcanic-sedimentary contact. Initial drilling was conducted between January and April this year where 423 RC holes were completed for 6,898m. Best intersections to date include:
46m @ 0.26%Cu, 0.62 g/t Ag
115m @ 0.16% Cu, 0.54 g/t Ag
107m @ 0.16% Cu, 0.45 g/t Ag
32m @ 0.24% Cu, 0.89 g/t Ag
The Company is waiting for further assay results to be returned. Although results to date at Swartberg have been disappointing, the style of mineralisation identified has opened up vast new tracts of ground within the Dordabis area to potential low grade, high tonnage copper and precious metals mineralisation.
Namib Lead Zinc Project
Following the drilling programme in 2007, preliminary metallurgical test work undertaken has produced favourable results with good separation of lead ("Pb") and zinc ("Zn") with high recoveries and grades. 11 of the 17 holes drilled intersected potentially economic base metal mineralisation with highlights including:
6.8m @ 3.5% Pb, 5.5 % Zn & 72 g/t Ag
5m @ 2.2% Pb, 8.8 % Zn & 49 g/t Ag
5m @ 1.3% Pb, 20.2 % Zn & 51 g/t Ag
8.5m @ 1.5% Pb, 11 % Zn & 19 g/t Ag
Second stage drilling is expected to commence shortly with 15,000m of RC planned. A scoping study to assess the likely CAPEX requirements for mine development is scheduled to commence on 16 June 2008.
Ubib - Copper / Gold Project
Diamond drilling commenced in March 2008 and a total of five holes have been completed for 1,077m testing soil anomalies over 1km of strike. Results from the first three holes are available covering 400m of strike with best assay returned including 1.25 m @ 1.17 g/t Au, 1.86 g/t Ag and 0.1% Pb.
