- Notification of Major Interest in Shares

Hong Leong Company (Malaysia) Berhad

On 4 July 2008, the Company received notification, under the obligations imposed by Section DTR5 of the FSA's Disclosure & Transparency Rules, from Hong Leong Company (Malaysia) Berhad ("Hong Leong Co.") that, as at 2 July 2008, Hong Leong Co. had a notifiable interest in the voting rights attached to 66,685,027 Ordinary 13 8/9p shares representing 17.08% of the total voting rights in The Rank Group Plc.

Notes

The voting rights in the Shares are held by Asia Fountain Investment Company Limited ("AFI"). AFI is a controlled undertaking of Guoco Equity Assets Limited, which is a controlled undertaking of Guoco Group Limited ("GGL"). GGL is a controlled undertaking of GuoLine Overseas Limited which is a controlled undertaking of GuoLine Capital Assets Limited ("GCAL"). GCAL is a controlled undertaking of Hong Leong Company (Malaysia) Berhad.

Goldman, Sachs & Co., a wholly-owned direct subsidiary of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. ("GS Inc"), acting as custodian for AFI, also has an indirect interest in the shares which are the subject of this notification ("the Shares").  58,475,684 of the Shares are registered in the name of Goldman Sachs Securities (Nominees) Limited and were the subject of a notification made by GS Inc on 30 June 2008 and it is expected that the balance of 8,209,343 of the Shares will shortly be registered in the name of Goldman Sachs Securities (Nominees) Limited.
