Disclosure of interest in the shares of Ennstone Plc ("Ennstone") pursuant to Rule 8.3 of the Takeover Code ("the Code")

Guinness Peat Group plc and its subsidiary companies ("the Group") announces that on 30 September 2008 it purchased 250,000 shares (0.05%) in Ennstone ("Shares") at a price of 9p per Share. When aggregated with the Group's existing long position in derivatives in respect of 15,587,780 Shares (3.21%), the Group's direct long interest in the relevant securities of Ennstone now amounts to 15,837,780 Shares representing 3.26% of the issued share capital of Ennstone.

The Group has an interest by virtue of being a rule 8.3 shareholder of Ennstone. No member of the Group is party to any agreement or arrangement relating to the exercise of any rights conferred by its holding of the interests the subject of this notification.
