Disclosure of interest in the shares of Ennstone Plc ("Ennstone") pursuant to Rule 8.3 of the Takeover Code ("the Code")

Further to its announcement on 1 October 2008 pursuant to Rule 8.3 of the Code, Guinness Peat Group plc and its subsidiary companies ("the Group") announces that on 7 October 2008 it acquired 15,587,780 (3.21%) Shares at a price of 10.75p per Share.  On 8 October 2008 it acquired a further 1,900,000 Shares (0.39%) at a price of 9p per Share.  

On 7 October 2008 the Group also closed out its long position in derivatives in respect of 15,587,780 (3.21%) Shares.  

When aggregated with the Group's existing holding of Shares the Group's direct long interest in the relevant securities of Ennstone now amounts to 17,737,780 Shares representing 3.65% of the issued share capital and consequent voting rights of Ennstone.

No member of the Group is party to any agreement or arrangement relating to the exercise of any rights conferred by its holding of the interests the subject of this notification.
