TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFER

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4 Anglo American plc announces that on 15 March 2010, 980,482 shares were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy various awards made under the Company's employee share schemes.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 25,453,028 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,316,494,963 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
