LONDON (ShareCast) - ValiRx headed higher Tuesday after the cancer treatment company said its proprietary gene-silencing technology, GeneICE, has received patent approval in Australia.
The AIM firm, which was granted a US patent in April last year and a European patent in August 2007, holds the rights to GeneICE through its subsidiary, Cronos Therapeutics.
Cronos has an exclusive worldwide license agreement with Imperial College Innovations.
Its partner, Cancer Research UK, has recently completed phase one of its pre-clinical trials on GeneICE, which has the potential to freeze the development and growth of cancerous cells.
The trials showed GeneICE triggered cell death in ovarian, pancreatic and prostate cancer cells and could potentially be relevant to other cancers.
