LONDON (ShareCast) - Engineer Tomkins generates around 60% of its sales in the US and concerns about the impact of a US recession have hit the share price hard.

Some respite came today with hefty purchases of shares by chief executive James Nicol and finance director James Zimmerman. Nicol bought just short of £200,000 worth of shares at 153p, while Zimmerman bought £67,000 worth. Nicol now owns 2.23m shares and Zimmerman 272,000.

Last month, Tomkins warned outlook on some of its markets remain challenging as it saw underlying profits fall for the year but added that it was accelerating a restructuring programme to save costs.
