LONDON (ShareCast) - Video search engine blinkx has released a free internet TV application, BBTV, that integrates web resources and TV content.
BBTV has launched with a library of independent films supplied by Dogwoof, the UK film distributor, and a variety of high-quality programming from existing blinkx partners.
“BBTV delivers television over the internet, but it also fuses that TV with the wealth of information on the Web, rather than appearing as just another layer floating above it.” said blinkx founder and chief executive officer Suranga Chandratillake.
Each programme on BBTV will have a speech track of content created by blink’s video indexing technology, enabling the viewer to “navigate literally word-for-word and jump to specific points in a programme, simply by searching for a spoken word or name,” the company said.
Viewers will be able to instantly access transcripts of the audio track as well as background information about the show, including reviews and locations.
The service is fully compatible with blinkx AdHoc, the company’s contextual advertising platform.
Blinkx intends to add lots more channels and premium video content to its BBTV service in the coming months. It is also looking to provide similar offerings to BBTV in partnership with media and entertainment sites.
