LONDON (ShareCast) - Alizyme was today’s biggest faller after the drug developer said it has ended development of its drug renzapride in constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome following results from a final stage clinical trial.

It said the results did not justify further development of the experimental drug, with the treatment group showing only a limited clinical improvement over a placebo group.

There were also limited effects seen on the three key secondary endpoints, relief of pain, bowel problems and bloating.

Worries about its applications side sent shares in IT hardware supplier Morse slipping back despite progress elsewhere.

"The Applications Consulting business continues to be affected by a number of contract issues that are having a direct impact on the performance of this area of the business," Morse said in a trading statement.

Management Consulting and Infrastructure Consulting businesses are trading as expected while Morse said it is making progress in the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.
