LONDON (ShareCast) - Higher crude prices helped Africa and Middle East-focused oil and gas explorer and producer Addax Petroleum report sharply higher sales and profits in the first quarter of 2008.
The Calgary-based company lifted its first quarter sales to US$1.15bn in the first quarter, compared to £627m a year ago. It was helped by the average price it charged for a barrel of crude oil rising to $97.03 from $57.86. Net income rose to $240m from $165m.
“I am pleased to report that Addax Petroleum's performance in the first three months of 2008 continues to build upon our track record for delivering robust results, strong operational performance and excellent netbacks,” chief executive Jean Claude Gandur said.
